| This Painted Pottery Bull and Cart are in Excellent Overall Condition, c. 550-577 AD. This Piece is Representative of the Northern Qi Period from China, Featuring Earthware with Pigments. Painted Pottery figure of an ox and cart resting on a shaped, narrow plinth. Sturdy figure of a caparisoned ox standing foursquare, head upraised, handsomely embellished with bossed trappings and secured to a canopied cart with two large detachable wheels with unusual petal form spikes radiating from the center. Such elaborate conveyances were reserved for the aristocracy and as such were elaborately decorated and the ox lavishly adorned with gilt metal fixtures and silk embellishments. As symbolically represented in the ceramic form, the ox and cart are rendered initially from molds, then applied with slip for hand finished details of the face and musculature and separately applied ornaments and finely cold-painted details in a variety of pigments of which some red and black still remain. Measuring 22"W X 14.5"D X 14"H. Serious Inquires are Welcome! Item ID: N256735 | ||||||||||
